Raymond Van Dam at his lecture on September 10, 2015.

Raymond Van Dam, Professor of History at the University of Michigan, kicked off the Eisenberg Institute's 2015-16 programs on September 10 with his lecture, "Big Cities, Food, and Migration in the Later Roman Empire: A Simple Model."

Professor Van Dam's talk is available online as an MP3 audio file to University of Michigan account holders (link here to access).

On September 11, the Institute launched its new biennial theme with the symposium, "Senses and Longings: An Introduction," featuring Hitomi Tonomura, Martha S. Jones, Helmut Puff, and Howard Brick (chair).

These events were made possible by a generous contribution from Kenneth and Frances Aftel Eisenberg.
