Valerie Garver, Associate Professor of History at Northern Illinois University, discussed the role of cloth and textiles in the court of Charles the Bald, the ninth-century ruler of the Carolingian Empire, in her October 24 presentation with the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies. The talk, "The Power of Cloth: The Roles of Clothing and Textiles in the Court of a Carolingian Ruler," continued the Institute's 2013-15 theme, "Materials of History."
