The Eisenberg Institute's Thursday Speakers Series continues on January 31, 4 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, with Victor Lieberman's lecture, "Southeast Asia and Eurasia During a Thousand Years." Lieberman is the Marvin B. Becker Collegiate Professor of History and Professor of Southeast Asian History at the University of Michigan. His work, Strange Parallels, Volume 2: Mainland Mirrors: Europe, Japan, China, South Asia, and the Islands, was described in the American Historical Review as "the most important work of history produced so far this century" and was the subject of a special edition of the Journal of Asian Studies. Link for a lecture abstract and short biography.  On February 1, 12 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, the Institute presents the workshop, "The Traveling Historian: Creating Roadmaps Between Academic and Public History." Presented in conjunction with the Institute's Public History Initiative, the panel features a team of University of Michigan graduate students who will describe their experiences in public history, including partnerships with the National Park Service, historic sites, and museums.
