EIHS Symposium: "Senses and Longings: An Introduction"

Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies <br> Friday Series <br> Symposium

Synopsis: The Institute’s 2015-17 theme challenges scholars to explore human perceptions and feelings, and particularly the emotion of longing, as people imagine the recovery of times past or the coming of desired futures. Three U-M historians will illustrate the theme by discussing their work on family photo albums, emotions in warfare, and waiting at court.

Panelist include:

  • Martha S. Jones, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of History, Professor of Afroamerican and African Studies, University of Michigan.
  • Hitomi Tonomura, Professor of History and Women's Studies, University of Michigan.
  • Helmut Puff, Professor of History and Germanic Languages and Literatures, University of Michigan.
  • Howard Brick (chair), Louis Evans Professor of History, University of Michigan.

Free and open to the public. Lunch provided.
