The Department of Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in British, French, and/or Spanish Caribbean studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching demonstrate intersectional or cross-disciplinary historical, cultural, or literary interests in the areas of queer studies, popular culture and performance studies, Afro-Latino studies, or the 17th-18th-century Caribbean.
This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of September 1, 2017. Interested applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. degree in a relevant humanities or social sciences field prior to appointment. Candidates should be qualified to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses and graduate seminars that show both a breath of knowledge of the region and specific areas of focus. The successful candidate will complement the strengths of existing faculty and be positioned to grow the field of Caribbean studies in and beyond our department.
