Each year the Department of Communication Studies offers unique opportunities for our students to meet and engage with people prominent in a variety of media-related fields. We strongly encourage students to take advantage of these resources to network with other students, alumni and professionals to explore the vast array of career and internship options open to Communication Studies students.
The department hosts career exploration events to bring together University of Michigan alumni with current students. Alumni Connection invites Communication Studies alumni working in various media and communication fields as panelists to discuss career options for students. Entertainment Media Career Forum brings back alumni of various programs and departments to talk with students about careers in the entertainment field. These events include alumni panel presentations, career advice, networking opportunities and a question and answer session. A recent addition to our career events showcased a hands-on weekend workshop for students to learn practical skills for careers in public relations. Led by U-M alumni, students listened to panel presentations and worked in mentored teams to formulate and present multi-media PR plans.
Our department-sponsored student group, the Michigan Association of Communication Studies (MACS) provide our students with additional opportunities to collaborate, network, and enhance their leadership, professional; and educational training.
