Buddhist Studies

The Group in Buddhist Studies at the University of Michigan is an interdepartmental consortium of scholars and students trained in the Buddhist traditions of China, India, Japan, Korea, and Tibet. For more than forty years, the University of Michigan has been a leading center for the academic study of Buddhism in the United States. With a wide range of undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, advanced training in all the canonical languages, regular lectures by visiting scholars and Buddhist teachers, and six full-time faculty members, the University of Michigan remains one of the largest and most active Buddhist Studies programs in the country. We provide a forum for faculty, students, and members of the community to share research and resources with the aim of advancing the academic study and public understanding of Buddhist traditions worldwide.
