Exploring the Healing Power of Digital Storytelling and Connection with Hannah Giorgis of Black Girl Dangerous
This Bridge Called My Blog: Exploring the Healing Power of Digital Storytelling and Connection is an interactive workshop that will guide participants through the process of finding their digital voices in an increasingly cyber-connected world. While leaving space for participants to guide dialogue with their own questions and concerns, the workshop will move through a number of key concepts surrounding the power of social media as an organizing tool, narrative-sharing space, and site of transformation through communal healing of shared and individual traumas.
Hannah Giorgis is a prominent, black feminist blogger who has a lot of experience with pushing back against systems of oppression through her writing and online activism. She studied African and African American Studies at Dartmouth University, is a fierce activist, and has contributed to Black Girl Dangerous multiple times, as well as the blog Youngist. She is very well-versed in the ways that creative expression has been used as forces of resistance and survival. We are very proud to be hosting her at the University of Michigan and are grateful to her for stepping in to replace Mia McKenzie on such short notice. She came to believe deeply in the power of community-centered approaches to negotiating trauma as an undergraduate at Dartmouth, where marginalized students carried one another through institutional violence.
