About
Sriram Mohan is a PhD candidate (ABD) in the Department of Communication and Media, and was a Rackham Predoctoral Fellow (2020 - 21) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His research examines digital media cultures, political expression, and state-citizen relationships in South Asian contexts. His work has appeared in journals like Television & New Media, Social Media + Society, International Journal of Communication, and International Journal of Cultural Studies. He is the co-author of the edited volume Global Digital Cultures: Perspectives from South Asia (University of Michigan Press, 2019) and serves as an associate editor of the peer-reviewed journal BioScope: South Asian Screen Studies. He was also the Secretary of the Popular Media and Culture division of the International Communication Association (ICA) from 2019 - 21.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Sriram was involved in the research, design, and development of two digital archives – ‘Remembering 1992' and ‘Mill Mumbai’ - at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. He has also worked with global advertising agency networks and has been a part of a digital news media start-up in Bangalore, India.
