Gain advanced knowledge of and experience with public health issues in Ho Chi Minh City through engagement with a local health organization.

GIEUs (Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates) are project-based service-learning programs. Earn 3 credits taking a semester-long pre-departure course on intercultural learning, conducting fieldwork abroad for 3–4 weeks during spring or summer, and completing a community education project in fall term with your cohort. Pell Grant recipients on GIEU programs automatically receive the GIEU Pell Scholarship to cover their entire program fee. All LSA students with demonstrated financial need—including Pell Grant recipients—are eligible for additional funding through the LSA Scholarships Office’s Global Experience Scholarship.

On the Health care in Vietnam program, you will become acquainted with a community health organization’s issue of concern within the framework of broader international development questions. Through participant observation, you will gain insider knowledge and a better understanding of how the organization operates structurally and how it negotiates its cultural climate to provide effective outreach to the local community. And you will assist the organization in its daily work to experience firsthand how they serve their constituents.
