Ken K. Ito

Ken Ito researches the ways Japanese fiction refracts and pressures social and cultural discourses, particularly of the Meiji period (1868-1912). He uses historical inquiry, as well as narratology and reception studies, to analyze how fiction generates social meanings. He has worked on the novels of Tanizaki Jun’ichirō; melodramatic fiction from the turn of the 20^th century; and Natsume Sōseki’s Kokoro, on which he has published three studies.
