Emily Weinstein, BA, 2017

Field of Study: BA, Asian Studies; Minor in International Studies

Graduation Year: 2017

My name is Emily Weinstein, and I am a graduate from the Asian Languages and Cultures department. This department is highly-ranked and considered one of the largest and most respected Asian Studies programs currently in the United States. Though this may have seemed intimidating at first, over my four years as a student, this department has truly become my home away from home.

Obtaining a degree from ALC has allowed me to not only perfect my Chinese language abilities, but has also provided me with the strongest knowledge foundation possible in order to graduate and move into the world as a developing expert on China. I have made strong connections with my language and area studies professors throughout my four undergraduate years. My language professors are always more than excited to speak to me in Chinese whether we run into each other in the department, somewhere else on campus, or even at the local dim sum restaurant. My area studies professors have been invaluable resources in helping me to improve my analytical research and writing skills. Their passion for all things Asia has driven me to strive for perfection and want to continuing digging into the depths of this discipline

Next year, I will be attending Georgetown University’s Security Studies MA program at the School of Foreign Service. My undergraduate experiences in ALC have greatly assisted in not only preparing me for a rigorous graduate course of study, but also providing me with the means to be accepted into a prestigious MA program in the first place. As I graduate and move on in my career, I will undoubtedly continue to carry with me the wisdom and teachings of the faculty and staff from ALC. Go blue!
