This event celebrates the artistic circles and compositions of American composers Virgil Thomson, Aaron Copland, Ned Rorem, David Diamond, John Cage, and David Del Tredici. U-M Professor Nadine Hubbs (Women’s Studies, Music, American Culture) will provide commentary, based on her book The Queer Composition of America’s Sound: Gay Modernists, American Music, and National Identity. Performers will include SMTD students and faculty, featuring Jennifer Goeltz (soprano), Matthew Leslie Santana (violin), Jean-Bernard Cerin (baritone), and special guest pianist, Adam Tendler. Based in New York, Mr. Tendler is an exciting and prolific classical pianist who specializes in music by gay modernist composers (adamtendler.com).
